The Seemanchal Express of East Central Railway derailed on February the 3rd, 2019, in Estern India, near Sahdei Buzurg. Unfortunately, six people were killed and more than 30 are injured.

The derailment seems to be due to problems in the rails (two bolts of a fish plate on the track were found to be unscrewed, and three pandrol clips were also found damaged), but someone claims that the problem is a consequence of a subsidence of the soil.

This event highlight the importance of preventive maintenance in railways and, if the subsidence cause will be confirmed, also the the importance of the research performed in MOMIT Project on the definition of methodologies and tools to prevent land subsidence and other hazards.
